Stephen R. Nentrup

May 12, 1947 — January 11, 2017

Stephen R. (Steve) Nentrup died Jan. 11, 2017 In Indianapolis. He was born May 12, 1947 in Columbus, Indiana and grew up in Shelbyville, Indiana. His parents, Anna E. and William E. Nentrup who are deceased, provided him the quintessential life of a child who grew up in the 50's and 60's.

Steve graduated from Shelbyville High School in 1965, served in the Army from 1966-1969, and graduated from Purdue University in 1974. His professional career was retail management, working for J.C. Penney and Meijer. He also operated a small business "Treats" in the late 80's.

Steve was a kind, caring man who had a passion for reading, politics and history. He supported peace and social justice issues. He will be deeply missed by his life partner, Sarah E. Bowers; daughter, Stephanie L. Nentrup, Indianapolis; son, Craig W. (Lindsay Gerling-Nentrup) Nentrup; grandchildren, Eric, Emily, Alexander and Parker Guy and Gemma Nentrup; and sister, Susan J. (Susie) Nentrup, Bloomington, Indiana.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, Jan. 21, 2017, at Cumberland First Baptist Church, 116 S. Muessing St., Cumberland, IN 46229 at 11 AM. Visitation with the family will be from 10 AM until the time of the service. A time to share remembrances of Steve will continue at lunch following the Celebration of Life Service.

Memorial donations may be made to the Food for the Hungry, Asia Operations, and to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation.

Food for the Hungry - Steve's friend Tim Danz, who worked with him for several years at Meijer, is the Bangladesh Executive Director for the Food for the Hungry.
