Stuart P. Sobel
71 years of age of Carmel, passed away on November 30, 2016. Stuart was born on March 21, 1945 in Cleveland, OH to Edward and Beatrice Sobel. He was a graduate of Ohio University. Stuart spent 30 years with the Internal Revenue Service. Upon his retirement from the Federal Government, he began Stuart Sobel Consulting, which focused on tax planning and controversy. Through this firm, he helped to establish more than 2500 charities worldwide. For 8 years Stuart was the producer and host of his own weekly radio program which aired throughout the US.
He formed Tax Media Network, Inc. in 2008 after realizing there was a need for continuing education courses for CPAs, attorneys and enrolled agents and became a significant supplier of such courses to CPE providers. Stuart was a member of Indianapolis Hebrew Congregation and served on many boards of directors including the Better Business Bureau, SCORE, Ohio University, Family Development Services, Crossroad Rehabilitation, Indiana Writers Center and others. He received numerous national, state and local awards and honors throughout his career and was honored by then Vice President Gore in 1998 for his efforts to improve the quality of the IRS through public private partnership.
Stuart's most cherished role was that of loving husband, father, brother and grandfather. He is survived by his wife of more than 48 years, Grace; his daughters, Jennifer (Ravi) Ratan of Dallas and Laura (Tim) Abrams of Carmel; grandchildren, Kalli, Sterling Ratan and Jory Abrams and his sister, Eileen (Lawrence) Paper of Pittsburgh.
Funeral services will be on Friday, December 2, 2016 at 2:00 PM in Aaron-Ruben-Nelson Mortuary, 11411 North Michigan Road, Zionsville, IN 46077. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to favorite charity. Friends may leave a message for the family by visiting www.arnmortuary.com
