Tekchand Kidarnath Amarchand Duggal

Tekchand Kidarnath Amarchand Duggal, 97, citizen of the world, peacefully passed away September 24, 2023 in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Tekchand, fondly known as “Tek” and “TC”, was born to the late Kidarnath and Rampyari Duggal on August 17, 1926 in Hadiabad, India.  His father passed away when he was an infant and he was raised by his mother and family members before migrating to Delhi as a teenager and starting work at the age of 15.  He attended university at night in order to earn his BA degree and was chosen to join the prestigious IAS in the 1950s.  However, he chose a different life trajectory from the IAS, married Kusum Lata Duggal in 1958 and migrated to Kenya, then a British Colony.  He worked in Kenya and earned a Master’s degree also while working.

Tek then proceeded to found three separate businesses in Kenya, raising and supporting four children each of whom he unconditionally supported in achieving postgraduate education at leading institutions of higher learning across the world.  “TC” was a pillar of his community in Kenya, where friends and family alike were drawn by his genuine nature and willingness to help solve problems.  He did so with a large network of friends and relationships who were drawn to his honest and decent nature, and that he was trying to help others, not himself.  He was an active Freemason and Chairman of the Lions Club in Nairobi.  He was the last survivor of a large group of legendary friendships from his days in Kenya.

He is survived by his wife, Kusum Lata Duggal; children, Vanita (Anil) Yakhmi, Arti (Ajit) Duggal, Sandeep (Eena) Duggal and Akhil (Vandana) Duggal; grandchildren, Neha (Jaffrey) Athman; Sahil Yakhmi, Avi Duggal, Annika Duggal, Maya Duggal, Chand Duggal, Sanaaya Duggal and Sahaana Duggal, and great-grandchildren, Elina Athman and Aidan Athman.

Services will be held at Aaron Ruben Nelson Mortuary, 11411 North Michigan Rd, on Wednesday, September 27th from 3 – 5 PM.
