Zionsville

Teruko Shoko Schutte, artist, sensei, and devoted wife, passed away on March 11, 2022 in Zionsville at the age of 70.

A long-time resident of Indiana, Shoko was born in Sendai, Japan.  She studied fine art, industrial design and architecture, at Chiyoda Art School, graduating in 1971.   She opened a thriving art studio in Tokyo before fate intervened and she met the love of her life, Mark Schutte.

Shoko followed her heart and moved to Indiana in 1987, where she continued her lifelong study of art in all of its forms.  She graduated from the Herron School of Art before founding and opening Sho Art Studio in 1996.  Over the years, Shoko enjoyed sharing her gift by teaching fine arts to hundreds of students of all ages and inclinations.

Shoko was an avid golfer and an active volunteer in the Japan-America Society of Indiana, where she helped strengthen the bonds of mutual understanding between the two cultures that defined her life's journey.

She will always be remembered for her generous spirit, her unwavering sense of humor, and her unbeatable smile.

Shoko is survived by her loving husband of 35 years, Mark Schutte; their children John (Melanie) Schutte and Jeremy (Lucy) Schutte; and four grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Japan-America Society of Indiana .  A private memorial will be held at a later date.
