Theresa V. Lonigan
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved, Theresa V. Lonigan, on March 30, 2020 at the age of 94.
She was full of life, always brimming with vitality and cheer. A fun-loving sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to all, she was affectionately known as (Theresa, Teresa, Tressie, Tress, Trish, TT, and Ganny) to her family and friends.
Born in Indianapolis, IN on November 1, 1925 to (John) Edgar and Ethel Cordell, she was a graduate of School 44 and Manual High School. In 1945, Theresa married John Lonigan and they celebrated 66 years of marriage before his passing in 2012. She was co-owner of Westside Floor Covering with her husband, and in her retirement became a childcare provider and household manager for several professionals, all of whom considered her family.
A lifetime member of the Cerealene Town Neighborhood Reunion, Theresa participated in many social and philanthropic organizations over the years. Later in life, she became an enthusiastically active member of the Speedway Moose Lodge 500 (Women of the Moose Chapter 518). She was also an active member of Speedway Christian Church and, prior to that, a member of the former St. Luke's United Church of Christ in Speedway. Her passions were music — especially Dixieland and Big Band —dancing, cheering for the COLTS, and golf, which she started playing at the age of 50. Above all, she cherished time spent with family and her many friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John; her eldest daughter, Gloria; her parents; sisters, Betty Cecilia, Catherine, Jean, Virginia; and brothers, Robert and Thomas. She is survived by her daughter, Marcia (Steven) Poe; beloved granddaughters, Caitlin Poe (David Bartley) and Gillian Poe; brother, David P. Cordell; several nieces and nephews; and many special friends. We will miss her dearly.
