Thomas Otto Danielson
Thomas Otto Danielson, formerly of Selinsgrove, passed away in Carmel, Indiana, on November 13, 2017. He was 66.
Born on April 18, 1951 in Kane, Pennsylvania, Tom was the son of Floyd and Irene (Anderson) Danielson, both of whom preceded him in death.
After graduating from Kane Area High School in 1969, Tom earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Art Education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 1972 and later obtained his Master of Arts degree from Kutztown University of Pennsylvania . While at IUP, Tom met his wife, Loretta (McNertney) Danielson. Tom and Laurie were married on September 2, 1972.
Tom was a resident of Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania, and an art teacher at the Selinsgrove Area Middle School for 37 years. He coached the boys' junior varsity, girls' 8th grade, and boys' 7th grade basketball teams at various times during his years as a teacher. After retiring, Tom and Laurie moved to Noblesville, Indiana, in 2015.
Tom grew up in the Allegheny National Forest, and he never lost his love for the outdoors. When not rooting for the Pittsburgh Pirates or Pittsburgh Steelers, he often could be found playing golf with friends, trout fishing in the Bald Eagle State Forest, or teaching pottery classes in his home studio.
He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Laurie; his sons, Nathan (Melissa) Danielson of Carmel, Indiana, and Michael (Daisy) Danielson of Rockville, Maryland; his grandchildren, Owen and Nora Danielson of Carmel, Indiana; his sister, Rebecca (Wayne) Shumoski of Broomall, Pennsylvania; his McNertney and Shumoski in-laws; and his nieces and nephews.
Tom's family plans to hold a memorial service in central Pennsylvania at a later date.
Memorial donations may be made in Tom's honor and memory to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (http://www.lls.org).
Arrangements entrusted to A.R.N. Funeral & Cremation Services.
