Virginia Sherwood McKay
Virginia S. McKay, 81, passed away Thursday, February 20, 2014 in Indianapolis.
She was born in Portland, OR, on Nov. 30, 1932, to the late Richard Sherwood and Anna Crane Sherwood. She was preceded in death by her husband, Judd Reed McKay, and her sister, Jane Sherwood Adkins. She is survived by her sons, Douglas (Cindy) McKay, of Indianapolis, and Robert (Thirza) McKay, of Chicago, and three grandchildren.
She grew up in Portland, and Tipp City, OH. She graduated from Purdue University, where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. Through the years she lived in San Francisco, CA, Troy, OH, and Indianapolis, IN.
She retired from the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra. In her active retirement, she travelled extensively, and was a past president of the Indiana Council on World Affairs, a founding member of Y-ME of Central Indiana, a member of the Liberal Arts Alumni Board of Purdue, and belonged to the American Contract Bridge League, the Indianapolis Museum of Art, the Indiana State Museum, and the Economics Club.
There will be private celebrations in Indianapolis and Tipp City at a later date.
Memorial contributions in her memory may be made to the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, or Y-ME of Central Indiana.
