William "Bill" Greenwald
passed away on January 27, 2016 at the age of 84. He was born to Rabbi Milton and Ruth Greenwald on August 6, 1931. He grew up in Evansville, Indiana, and entered the Navy in 1952. As a journalist, Bill was assigned to the Admiral's staff in Pearl Harbor, during the Korean War. After 4 years in the Navy, he attended Indiana University where he met Harriet Spasser, who became his beloved wife of 56 years. He graduated in 1958 with a degree in Business Administration. Bill spent 42 years as a manufacturer's representative in the home furnishings industry. The last six years of his life were especially rewarding. Bill volunteered over 5,000 hours at the C.O.A.G. clinic in St. Vincent Hospital. He was an emotional support for the families in clinic. He loved nothing more than his family and friends, and being "Papa" to his grandchildren. His compassion and sense of humor endeared him to everyone he met.
Bill is survived by his wife, Harriet; sister, Susan (Paul) Roberts; daughter, Rachel (Steve) Gallagher; son, David (Jamie) Greenwald; and grandchildren, Jason, Alison, Matthew, Aaron and Emily.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, January 31st at Aaron Ruben Nelson Mortuary, 11411 N. Michigan Rd., at noon. Memorial contributions may be made to the Indianapolis Hebrew Congregation or St. Vincent Hospital Foundation of Indianapolis.
