William "Bill" Stewart, 74, passed away April 23, 2015 at Methodist Hospital. Bill was born in Glasgow, Scotland on May 28, 1940 to John Somerville and Jessie Thompson Stewart. He married Euphemia "Fay" Mary Campbell Macrae on June 30, 1961.
Bill attended Queens Park School and had an accounting degree from Strathclyde University. He was also an Associate of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators in Britain. Bill worked for Cummins Engine Company in Shotts, Scotland before moving to Columbus in 1972 to work in the Pricing and Finance Departments at Cummins until his retirement in 1998.
The Stewart family is passionate about soccer and Bill helped bring soccer to Columbus in the 1970's. Many people in Columbus are lucky to have called Bill their coach or teammate. In 1988, he was named Indiana Coach of the year. One of Bill's favorite things was watching matches on the pitch at the Scottish National Stadium- Hampden Park.
Bill was also very involved in the Scottish Festival In Columbus. He was a past president and remained involved for many years. Bill and Fay loved to travel- one of his favorite trips was to Venice, Italy. He enjoyed walking on the beach- often stopping to pick up a stone or shell.
Bill is survived by his wife, Fay, and their children Linda Macrae (Troy) Roark, John Derek (Kristi) Stewart, and Mark Somerville (Amy) Stewart. He is the beloved grandfather of Macrae and Kyle Roark; Erica and Olivia Stewart; and Jake, Kate, Brynn, and Pete Stewart. He is also survived by his sister, Margaret McLeod of Glasgow, Scotland and her children Valerie Crampsie and Stewart McLeod.
