WILLIAM HENRY STRAUSS
88, of Indianapolis, passed away August 5, 2016. He was born May 3, 1928 to Henry and Helen (Davis) Strauss in Columbus, Ohio and moved to Indianapolis in 1937. After graduating from Shortridge High School, he attended Butler University studying accounting. While there, he met and married the love of his life, Jacquelyn Lawson Strauss. They shared 65 wonderful years of marriage until her death in 2013.
Bill was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity and Butler University Alumni Association. He was a long-time member of the Riviera Club and served numerous terms on the Board of Directors. He was a member of Meridian Street United Methodist Church and served on the Finance Committee for many years.
Bill worked as an accountant for International Harvester Corporation Farm Equipment Division for 25 years, retiring in 1970. He then began an entirely new professional experience becoming the Controller of the Jewish Welfare Federation of Indianapolis. He retired in 1990 after twenty years of exceptional service.
Bill is survived by his children, Teresa (Glenn) Montgomery of Nixa, MO, Cynthia (Charles) Gemmer of Fishers, IN, and William P. Strauss of New Albany, IN; seven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. Also surviving are his nephew, Gerald (Jane) Decius, and wonderful friend, Lois Jean Turner. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jacquelyn and his sister, Norma Ann Decius.
A memorial service celebrating Bill's life will be held at Meridian Street UMC on Saturday August 13, 2016 at 1 PM with calling in the church parlor after the service.
