William Vernon Wilson

January 13, 1932 — June 28, 2021

William Vernon Wilson received his angel wings on June 28, 2021.  Bill was born in Chicago, Illinois January 13, 1932 to Harry B. Wilson and Lucille Wilson (nee Hillstrom).  Bill was followed by his siblings, James E. Wilson and Charlotte Burns (Nee Wilson).  He attended Grammar School and High School, then enlisted in the Navy.  He was stationed at Great Lakes.  He served in the Korean War as a radar operator on the USS Putnam.  After his enlistment in the Navy, he came home to Chicago and worked in his father’s hardware store.

He then met and married Susan Saladino on November 3, 1957.  He became father to William R. Wilson, Andrea S. Wilson, and Matthew J. Wilson.  He was a father-in-law to Melissa J. Wilson (nee Noeske) and grandfather to three grandsons; Aiden J. Wilson, Ian C. Wilson, and Liam P. Wilson.

During Bill’s time here, he was a police officer, a furniture buyer, managed Norm’s Bluko Carwashes, joined the Indiana National Guard, and was an avid plantsman and wood craftsman.  He made and sold birdhouses, and in later years he even became a published author and took up painting.

Bill was a member of Spirit of Life Church since its beginning in 1994.  He worked in the bookstore when it was merely a table.  He continued working there until very recently when his health did not permit it any longer.

He loved his family, nature, fishing, doing artistic and creative things and being with people.  He was well known for his easy laugh.  Bill loved his church, his pastors (Pastors Ed and Beth Barnes and Pastors Zane and Rachel Bousum) and the members.  He enjoyed the sermons despite sleeping through them.  In fact, he always watched television like that as well.

His laughter, kindness, and creativity will be greatly missed.

Bill's Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, August 7, 2021 at 11am at Spirit of Life Church, 3737 N. Raceway Rd. Indianapolis, IN 46234.

A Note from Bill's Family: We feel extremely blessed to have had him in our lives as long as we did and are blessed that he was home on the property he so dearly loved when he passed.  He was comfortable and had time with his family before he went home to the Lord.  We would like to thank everyone for your kind words, thoughtful acts, and prayers.
