William “Bill” Clayton Hildebrand, age 70, of Indianapolis, passed away September 17, 2021. Born in Hartford City, Indiana, he was the son of William and Jesmine Hildebrand. Bill graduated from Hartford City High School and then attended Rose Hulman, then known as Rose Polytechnic Institute, where he received a Bachelor’s of Science in chemistry. One of his favorite college stories was founding Theta Xi’s annual Winefest.
Bill worked as a chemist for several companies before accepting a position with Superior Oil where he spent most of his career and from where he would eventually retire. The position was in Indianapolis where he moved with the love of his life, Margaretta “Pixie” Hildebrand and their young son, Chris. A few years later they welcomed the birth of their daughter, Andrea.
Bill loved to play golf and was avidly looking forward to playing a lot more in retirement. He was also very passionate about sports in general, particularly football. He never missed a televised Indianapolis Colts or Green Bay Packers game. Bill and Pixie had a friendly rivalry as she is a Chicago Bears fan.
Bill will always be remembered for his love of his family, his intelligence and stoicism, his passion for life, and his unwavering loyalty.
Bill is survived by his wife of 43 years, Margaretta Hildebrand; daughter, Andrea Howard; son, Christopher (Jennifer) Hildebrand; and two grandchildren, Anaelise and Caitlyn Hildebrand.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, William and Jesmine Hildebrand.
Funeral services will be held at A.R.N. Funeral and Cremation Services located at 11411 N. Michigan Rd. Zionsville, IN 46077 on Friday, September 24th at 3 PM. Friends and family are welcome to visit from 2 PM until the time of the service.
There will be a Celebration of Life immediately following at the home of Chris and Jennifer Hildebrand, located in Carmel, 10 mins from A.R.N.
